SAS Nagar, August 28 (satish kumar puppy):-To expedite plasma donation, Government of Punjab has introduced the feature of plasma donor registration on the COVA Punjab App, informed Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan.
Divulging further he informed that Plasma Therapy is being extended to COVID-19 patients who have been advised so by the doctors. With the increasing number of patients, it is necessary to have adequate plasma supply. So, to ease the donation process, State Government has extended the facility of on-app registration to COVID survivors who wish to donate plasma to assist recovery of critical COVID-19 patients.
Besides, district administration has made arrangement of mobile medical teams which would be sent to the donor’s home to collect the blood sample. The sample thereafter will be examined for the presence of requisite amount of antibodies. The donors of the suitable samples would subsequently be contacted for plasma donation. The plasma collected would be preserved in the plasma banks in each of the hospitals authorized to conduct plasma therapy and would be made available as per the need of critical COVID-19 patients.
Making an appeal to those who have recovered from infection, to volunteer for plasma donation, Dayalan said that plasma donation is a simple, painless non-invasive procedure with no adverse effect on the donor. In fact, many officers in the district who fought the infection successfully are coming forward for donation. PCS officers association has also given the consent for donation, he informed.
The city has three hospitals extending plasma therapy namely Fortis, Max and Grecian while the fourth, the IVY hospital has also been granted permission for the same. This would quicken the pace of plasma transfusion, informed the Deputy Commissioner.
Manpower and infrastructure is in place but donation can be considered only from those who had the disease and have recovered at least 2 to 3 weeks before the donation. So, massive support from COVID survivors willing to donate plasma for the fellow citizens is the need of the hour.
