Jalandhar 23 January: Continuing its spree against drug peddling in the region, the Counter-Intelligence Wing jalandhar today busted another inter-state drug smuggling racket with recovery of 3.80 quintal poppy husk being smuggled in a specially made hidden partition (cavity) in a canter, from the area of Police Station Rawalpindi, Phagwara, Kapurthala.
In a press release, AIG Counter Intelligence Mr HPS Khakh said that the counter Intelligence Wing is keeping close vigil on the activities of drug smugglers . He said that they had got a tip-off that a large haul of drug consignment is being supplied in a Balero Camper and a canter registration number (PB10-FF-6503) from MP based drugs smugglers to Punjab.
He said that acting swiftly this information was immediately shared with SSP Kapurthala Mr Satinder singh following which a Joint team of Counter Intelligence wing Jalandhar and phagwara police under the supervision of SP Mandeep Singh was formed and the teams moved for search in the area to seizure the drug consignment and to apprehend the smugglers.
Mr Khakh said that police parties laid a special checking on the Hoshiarpur -Phagwara road and signalled a White Balero Camper coming from Phagwara side to stop for checking, the driver in Balero Camper flew from the spot by dozing police parties but one Canter (PB10-FF-6503) which was following the Balero Camper was nabbed by the Police parties for checking, driven by the Ved Prakash.
Briefing the details AIG explained that, during frisking the police party seized 2 bags of Poppy husk hidden under the driver seat and 17 bags of Poppy husk hidden in specially made partition (cavity) and arrested accused/smuggler Ved Prakash s/o Balbir singh resident of village Pappra, Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh.
In preliminary interrogationof the accused , it has been revealed that Swarn singh S/O Bhag singh resident of Paramjit Nagar Ludhiana was driving the Balero Camper and he has purchased this apprehended canter and made a special partition in its body to smuggle the drugs. He further revealed that Paramjit had approached Ved parkash to get along in this deal and promised him to share profit came out of this deal .
AIG further told that both the accused are smuggling these drugs from MP and supplying it in the area of Punjab from quite some time by hiding it in this specially built partition, so that police cannot doubt them. This partition was so perfectly built with Ply board and Iron sheets that no one can easily find this space behind it.
A case has been registered against the accused in Police Station Rawalpindi, Phagwara under sections 15/61/85 NDPS Act and police parties has been despatched to arrest the accused managed to escape from the spot, AIG added.
Mr Khakh further informed that the accused would be taken on the police remand to interrogate him about the entire module and to identify the other members involved in this racket .
AIG added that it’s the 17th big drug consignment (loaded in trucks) which has been confiscated by counter Intl wing jalandhar in recent times to break the supply chain of drugs .
