Chandigarh December 15, 2019. The Christian Community of Chandigarh have welcomed and thanked Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Sh. Amit Shah for amending the Citizenship Act of 1955 to enable the Christians, coming from Afganistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh to acquire citizenship of India.
A large number of Christian leaders of Chandigarh visited the residence of Sh. Satya Pal Jain Ex. BJP MP, Additional Solicitor General of India & a Member of the National Executive Committee of the BJP and submitted him a letter addressed to Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi thanking him for the amendment of the Act with a request to Sh. Jain that this memorandum be forwarded to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Mr Jain assured them that he will forward their memorandum/letter of thanks to the Hon’ble Prime Minister immediately.
In the letter addressed to the Prime Minister they have said that atrocities were being committed continuously on the minorities including Christians in Afganistan, Pakistan and Banglades. Therefore, a large number of people, belonging to minorities including Christians had to run from these countries to take shelter in India.
Thousands of Christians, who had come from these countries, got settled in various parts of the country. They were waiting for a long time to acquire Indian citizenship and with this amendment the Christian migrants and all those persecuted and displaced minorities from Afganistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh would be able to get Indian citizenship, find their peace in our beloved country and would be able to build their roots and contribute to the development of the society and the Nation.
They also held prayers, praying to Lord Jesus Christ to continue to bless and guide Sh. Narendra Modi for further edification of India.
