Chandigarh, April 3( Wishavwarta)-Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Punjab, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema and party spokesperson and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan have demanded that the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh should Immediately bring in an ordinance, facilitating safe and dignified funerals of those Corona victims in the state and perform their other rituals as per their established faiths.
In a joint statement issued from party headquarters on Friday, Harpal Singh Cheema and Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that the recent reports pouring in from Ludhiana, Ferozepur and Sri Amritsar districts, where bodies of the victims of corona virus were not being handled with grace and due respect, which was unfortunate, inhuman and heart rending.
Citing an example of Padamshree awardee Ragi Nirmal Singh Khalsa, who served the Panth and Punjabiity throughout his life, AAP leaders said that the Khalsa came from a humble Dalit family and touched the pinnacle of glory, was the latest to quote, saying if the man of his stature had to live through ordeal, what could happen to other victims falling prey to the killer virus. They demanded that the Captain government, taking a cue from these incidents, should initiate immediate legal measures so that any other victim of the pandemic did not have to go through the ordeal.
Cheema and Sandhwan demanded that the Punjab government needed to send out a message loud and clear among the scary people of the state by ensuring provision for special kits to safely wrap the bodies of the victims of corona epidemic, saying the people must be given a sense that those falling prey to Covid-19 would be offered a dignified funerals as per their established customs.
The AAP leaders castigated the Union and state Governments and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the apex body of the Sikhs, for their lackadaisical attitude by not offering no aid for medical treatment of Bhai Nirmal Singh Khalsa.
