Kapurthala, 17 August: Slamming the opposition for misleading the people on the issue of farmers’ debt, the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Sunil Jakhar today said that the Congress government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was making strenuous efforts for welfare of the farmers. Interacting with the media during his visit to the flooded villages of Mand area, the PPCC Chief said that it was on record that Captain Amarinder Singh has always bailed out the farmers of the state from any crisis faced by them. He said that now also the state government was making all out efforts to help the farmers during the severe agrarian crisis. Jakhar said that from day one in his office during current regime the Chief Minister was having brain storming sessions to transform the destiny of distressed peasantry of the state.
Jakhar said that it was on record that from the first day of assuming office f said that like other politicians, the Chief Minister has not lingered on the issues till the poll year but has started moving the things towards right direction for redressing of issues of farmers. However, the PPCC Chief said that the NDA government at centre could not run away from its responsibility of helping the farmers in this hour of crisis. He reminded the Union government that when the country was dependent on food grains from other countries at that time the hard working and resilient farmers of the state had made the country self reliant in food production. Jakhar said that now when the farming community of Punjab was in dire straits it was the moral duty of the Union government to extend a helping hand to them. Later on during his visit in flood affected village of Baghuana and Sherpur Dogra, the PPCC Chief assured the people that the state government would find a permanent remedy to protect the loss of people due to floods in Mand area of Doaba region. Lauding the people of region for their bravery, he said that the state government and Congress party would make all out efforts to secure their interests at every cost.
