Chandigarh: The cabinet sub-committee on mining here today at Punjab Bhawan held deliberations regarding the suggestions forwarded by the Union Ministry of Mines and study reports concerning mining policy of 13 states. The meeting was presided over by the Local Government Minister, Punjab and Committee Head Navjot Singh Sidhu and also saw Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh, Principal Secretary Mines Jaspal Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Anirudh Tiwari, Secretary cum Director Mines Kumar Rahul, Secretary Punjab Mandi Board Amit Dhaka and Additional Secretary Mines Vineet Kumar in attendance.
On the occasion Navjot Singh Sidhu disclosed that after studying the mining policies and concerned reports of different states it has been decided to visit Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to have a firsthand information about their successful mining model. As per this, the committee officers would visit the 2 states from 11th-13th April led by Sidhu. The delegation would hold meetings with the mining officials of both the states and also have an in depth study of their system so as to incorporate the positives in the proposed mining policy of Punjab.
Sidhu further said that the sub committee would submit its report by 21st April to the cabinet and he would hold another meeting of the committee on coming back and give final touches to the report.
