Jalandhar: In order to develop the city as hub of ‘Medical Education’, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra today fulsome support and cooperation to the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for starting Post Graduate (PG) courses in the institute.
Addressing the gathering during the annual fest of the institute here today, the Cabinet Minister said that every effort would be made to start the PG courses from this premier institute, to upgrade the medical skills of the students. Mohindra said that the state government would extend all sought of help to this institute for starting these courses to benefit the students.
Expressing concern over the brain drain of doctors, the Minister said that every effort would be made to check this trend. He said that the state government was trying to reverse this trend by opening new vistas of employment for the medical students. Mohindra said that the newly announced medical college at SAS Nagar (Mohali) would provide several job opportunities for the students. Likewise, he said that the state government was also in process of recruiting doctors in the PCMS cadres, which would also prove boon for the students.
The Minister advised the students to work zealously for serving the poor and the needy. He said that since ages, the Medical profession has been considered a very pious profession and the students must uphold this dignity.Mohindra also saluted the government doctors for doing exemplary service of the needy and underprivileged sections of the society.
