Phillaur (Jalandhar): With paddy procurement in district crossing the halfway mark, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today visited the Nurmahal and Phillaur grain markets to monitor the ongoing procurement operations in the district.
Accompanied by Sub Divisional Magistrate Varinder Singh Bajwa, the Deputy Commissioner visited the mandis to oversee the purchase and lifting of the food grains from these grain markets. Sharma asked the officers/ officials present on the occasion to ensure that the entire process was done in a transparent, smooth and hassle free manner. He also directed the officers/ officials to make sure that the farmers do not face any sort inconvenience while selling their grains.
The Deputy Commissioner had detailed interaction with the farmers present in the mandis. The farmers expressed satisfaction over the arrangement made by the state government and the district administration for the purchase and lifting of the grains from the mandis. They also thanked Mr. Sharma for ensuring proper arrangements in the mandis for the convenience of the farmers. The Deputy Commissioner assured the farmers that the state government was fully committed to lift each and every grain of the farmers.
Likewise, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioners Dr. Bhupinder Pal Singh and Jasbir Singh visited the Kartarpur, Bhogpur, Kang Khurd, Ladhra, Malsian, Nakodar, Partapura and others. Likewise, Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) Amrit Singh, Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, Navneet Kaur Bal and Rajeev Verma visited Lohian, Kang Khurd, Tehang, Nakodar, Adampur, Mehatpur, Mansoorpur, Sangowal, Bagela and others to monitor the procurement and lifting of the grains.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner said that against the total expected 10 lakh metric ton of paddy in district 516976 Metric Ton of paddy has reached the grain markets out of which 504367 Metric Ton has been procured. Likewise a payment worth Rs 628.85 crore has been made to the farmers and 95% of the grains procured till October 19 has been lifted from the market.
