Mansa: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked Congress chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh to apologise to the Sikh ‘qaum’ and resign as chief minister for disrespecting the sentiments of the community and refusing to stand by it to expose former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s hand in the 1984 Sikh genocide.
Talking to newsmen along with Bathinda mp and union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal after addressing worker meetings at all three places, the SAD president said it was condemnable that Capt Amarinder was taking a stand against the Sikh community which had expressed its resentment against Rajiv Gandhi at Ludhiana today. “This is not expected from any Sikh, least of all the chief minister of Punjab”.
The SAD president asked the chief minister to stand with the Sikh community and assist it in its quest for justice for 1984 victims instead of protecting the Gandhi family to save his chair. He said the recent Delhi high court verdict against Sajjan Kumar had indicted the Congress party for giving political patronage to the Sikh genocide perpetrators and helping them escape the law for 34 years. “There is no ambiguity now on whether Rajiv Gandhi engineered and protected those who indulged in the mass murder of Sikhs. It is Capt Amarinder’s duty as a Sikh and CM of Punjab to denounce the Gandhi family and stand with the Sikh sangat in its quest to get justice for all victims of the 1984 massacres. He should also demand the immediate expulsion of Jagdish Tytler and Kamal Nath from the Congress party without further ado”, he added.
Asking Capt Amarinder to stop sycophancy of the Gandhi family and listen to the voice of his conscience, Badal said the recent chilling disclosures in courts by witnesses had detailed how Congressmen instigated crowds to kill Sikhs. He said the extent of the debauchery was such that Sajjan Kumar even propagated killing Hindus who tried to save Sikhs. “If Capt Amarinder is still not moved then he is either made of stone or has decided to forsake his community to fulfil his desire to remain CM at all costs”. He said nothing more could be expected from a chief minister who did not even have time to pay obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib and was so insensitive to the feelings of the Sikh community that he had held elections to Panchayats during the Shahidi Jor mela which marked the ultimate sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh ji’s sahibzadas Baba Zorawar and Baba Fateh Singh.
