Mr. Manish Tewari Member Parliament from Sri Anandpur Sahib today held a special meeting at District Administrative Complex Nawanshahr with the officers of various departments of the district regarding the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent possible floods and complete all the arrangements by July 21. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shena Aggarwal assured that the authorities have been directed to make appropriate arrangements for the prevention of possible floods before the onset of rains and asked the officials of various departments to monitor these arrangements in a coordinated manner.
In this meeting, District Planning Board Chairman Satbir Singh Palli Jhikki, MLA Nawanshahr Angad Singh, MLA Balachaur Ch. Darshan Lal Mangupur, Chairman Chaman Lal Bhanmajara and Pawan Diwan, Chairman Punjab Large Industrial Development Board were also present.
MP Manish Tewari directed the Acting Engineer Drainage to make all necessary arrangements for the prevention of floods on the Sutlej river and Dhusi dams and to complete the work by July 21 to deal with the situation of possible floods before the monsoon.
He said that the areas which were affected last year like Bela Tajowal, Dugri and Khoja Bate in Balachaur sub division and Tajowal Mandala in Nawanshahr sub division, Burj Tahil Das must be prepared to avoid any water logging due to monsoon.
During the monsoon season coordination should be ensured with the Drainage Department and other Engineering Wings of the district including Canal Department, Panchayati Raj, Water Supply and Sanitation, Mandi Board and PWD to protect the lives and property of the common man. He directed the officials to personally visit the Sutlej river, Dhusi dam and other flood affected areas and ensure that all arrangements are made in time.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shena Aggarwal said that the district administration was fully vigilant about the safety of its citizens and no negligence would be used in monitoring the river dams. He said that the dams of the rivers wherever they were needed were being repaired immediately so that the lives and property of the people could be protected. The Deputy Commissioner said that special arrangements were being made at those places after receiving reports of floods and affected areas during the last few years so that the people would not be disturbed in any way.
He said that the administration was fully vigilant for all arrangements and people would not be allowed to face any difficulty.
