Jalandhar, January 7: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) complaints against the Tribune newspaper and its reporter Rachna Khaira. Reporter and newspaper have been booked on the complaint here over an alleged Aadhaar data breach report. The FIR was registered on the complaint lodged by a Deputy Director of UIDAI. All those who were mentioned by names in the Tribune reportage have also been booked.
The FIR was lodged at Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch on the charges of impersonation, forgery, cheating under relevant sections of the IPC as well as of the it Act and Aadhaar Act.
Following publication of the Tribune report on January 3, 2018, the UIDAI had termed it as a case of “misreporting” while maintaining the no breach of Aadhaar data was possible.
Jalandhar Press Club condemned the registration of the case. The mediapersons demanded withdrawal of the FIR and termed the action by the UIDAI as an attack on media to suppress its voice. Press Club has declared to protest against the registration of FIR against Rachna Khaira and Tribune for her story on Aadhar. It’s a crude attempt to gag the media from exposing the loopholes in government systems, said General Secretary.
