Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Sunam MLA has slammed the then SAD-BJP government for converting the alleged food scam involving Rs 31 thousand crore into ‘term loan’ during its tenure.
Referring to the motion moved by him in the assembly seeking high-level into the allegations, Arora said the government had allegedly converted the food scam involving Rs 31 thousand crore into term loan. He informed that the amount has to be paid back in the next 20 years at a fixed rate of interest, which would amount to Rs 65 thousand.
He said that finance minister of Punjab Manpreet Singh Badal had assured the House to probe the scam by a high powered committee to bring the facts to the fore. He lamented that nothing tangible had come out of the assurance made to the House.
He further added that the minister had also informed the House that the party had mentioned in its election manifesto to prove the matter. He also informed that he had forwarded a resolution to the members seeking approval to constitute a high-powered committee to prove into the allegations so that cash-strapped government could be saved from landing into another financial liability.
