Chandigarh 4 JUNE( Wishavwarta): In an another case of domestic violence and dowry, Jaspreet Kaur, 33, from Chandigarh lost her life in Shimla. She was married to Tarunjeet Singh Bhogal on 14th February 2014, and is survived by her 4 year old daughter, Ebadat Kaur.
The Shimla Police on June 2, had registered a case of suicide, on the other end the maternal family of the deceased had logged an FIR against the in-laws accusing them of dowry and domestic violence. “She had earlier twice been a victim of domestic violence with continuous demand of material by her husband. An FIR was also registered against her in-laws at Women Cell, Chandigarh in the year 2017”, disclosed deceased brother, Jasmeet Singh.
Jaspreet’s mother was in continuous touch with her daughter and asked her to let the lockdown finish to resolve the issue with a peaceful talk with her in-laws. She further stated that her daughter was continuously being harrassed mentally by her mother-in-law and husband. “She would call me everyday and tell me how they were meantally torchering her and her 4 year old daughter but we we couldn’t reach for her help due to lockdown”, she said.
Her brother also said that she was last beaten by her husband on March 3 after which he intervened between them over phone and got the matter sorted out. “To my surprise the trust I had developed over my brother in-law became the reason of my sister’s death”, he said.
The girl’s family had logged an FIR after reaching the spot of death and accused her in-laws of converting their daughter’s murder into a suicide. Case has been registered under IPC 306, 498-A and 34 against the in-laws.
After the postmortem conducted by Police at IGMC in Shimla, the maternal family is now fearing the tempermant with proofs as Tarunjeet’s father is a Senior Advocate in Shimla High Court and has good releations with higher officials of judiciary in the city, the postmortem report of the girl is awaited.
