Ottawa: The Transport Canada has reportedly allowed Sikhs to wear small Kirpan on board on domestic and international flights. The exemption however is not applicable to fight to United States of America (USA).The decision of the Canadian authorities to change the earlier rule has been disclosed by the World Sikh Organization of Canada ( WSO).
Welcoming the move, the World Sikh Organisation of Canada informed that as per new list of prohibited items issued by Transport Canada, small (6 cm blade) Kirpan won’t be prohibited on board. WSO further informed that England and European Union has already allowed passengers to fly with Kirpans having blade upto 6 cm. Earlier this year, the WSO had reached out to Transport Canada encouraging the adoption of the international standard so that Sikhs wearing the Kirpan could be accommodated.
