Chandigarh, January 4, Despite the stern stance and orders of the Supreme Court, the BJP Government in Haryana has legislated the PLPA Amendment Bill. The BJP Government wants to destroy forest areas in the state to benefit its loved ones.
This was stated by Haryana Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Kumari Selja in a statement issued here today.
Citing the revelations from an RTI, Kumari Selja said that despite the Supreme Court’s order and tough stand, the State Government got this law approved from the Governor in June last year and it was notified . However, in its observations in March last year, the Supreme Court had expressed displeasure about this bill .
Kumari Selja said that the Supreme Court had said that through this law, the government was clearing way for regularizing illegal constructions by violating the rules. The government was trying to benefit its loved ones through this amendment, she added.
She said that Haryana has the least forest area in the country and that is only three-and-a-half percent, which will further decrease after the enactment of this law. With its implementation, forests will be destroyed, illegal mining and construction will be promoted.
Kumari Selja said that the CAG report had recently caught a large scale mining scam in Haryana. Now this clearly shows that despite orders of the Supreme Court, the present State Government can go to any extent to benefit its supporters, she added.
