Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has taken a serious view of the serious allegations leveled against the Congress government by its own MLA Kulbir Singh Zira saying the drug lords in connivance with police top brass enjoying political patronage in the state were running the show behind the curtain.
In a statement issued from the party head quarters in Chandigarh here on Tuesday, the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Harpal Singh Cheema said Zira’s serious allegations which substantiated AAP’s stand on the issue of drugs which were being traded in the state under the nose of the government in power. He further said AAP had been raising its voice against the deep-rooted nexus behind the well-knit trade of smuggling of drugs.
Cheema further said that it was a matter grave concern that neither the government nor the special investigating team (SIT), headed by DGP Mohd Mustafa, had reacted to the allegations leveled by Zira, which was indicative of their passive connivance into the nexus running the nefarious trade, he alleged.
He demanded that chief minister captain Amarinder Singh, who had taken a solemn vow by holding ‘Gutka sahib’ in his hands to bring those behind the nexus to justice, need to clear the air over the barrage of allegations by holding an impartial inquiry in the allegation under the supervision of honorable Punjab and Haryana High Court, to clear his government’s loco standi, he said.
