Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to an exception to the controversial statement made by stated education OP Soni, comparing government schools to ‘dhawas’ and private schools to five star hotels.
In a statement, senior leaders and Sunam MLA Aman Arora said here on Monday the minister had played a cruel joke on the countless student studying in government schools.
He added that due to the anti-people policies of the erstwhile SAD-BJP, and now the ruling Congress government, the education set-up had crumbled. He, instead of initiating correctives to bring the beleaguered system back on the track, was utterly condemnable, which reflected his non-serious stance to the issue. Arora demanded an apology from the minister for his untenable statement.
On the other hand, he further said, the Kejriwal-led government in Delhi had been grabbing eyeballs from across the globe for the innovative steps taken for improving the lot of the school education, while the school education had gone from bad to worse. He said Soni must take a cue from Kejriwal and Sisodia and bring about the desired changes in the schools in the state where teeming millions of students from all strata of society were receiving education, he said.
He said that, instead of making such irresponsible and uncalled for comments, the minister should act seriously and bring about sea changes in the schools so that the education system could be back to its pristine glory. He urged the chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to divest the minister of his portfolio and give it to a person who is more sensible and responsibly.
