Jalandhar: Former Punjab Chief Minister and senior most leader of Shiromani Akali Dal Parkash Singh Badal will campaign in Shahkot by-election. However, in the Gurdaspur by-election last year, the senior Badal had not campaigned for the BJP candidates due to poor health.There is information that Badal will camp in Shahkot constituency for some days, the presence of Ajit Singh Kohar in past years never raised the need of senior leaders to campaign in the constituency.
According to sources, Badal will stay in an NRI’s place at Dhadowal village. On the other hand, the close relatives of Akali candidate Naib Singh Kohar said that if Badal stayed in the constituency he would stay at Ajit Singh Kohar’s house. Badal may come to Shahkot to boost the poll campaign around 13 May. The party president Sukhbir Singh Badal is also likely to camp for some days in the Shahkot constituency.
The Shiromani Akali Dal has divided the Shahkot constituency into 43 zones and 43 senior leaders are appointed in each. From May 5, the Akali leaders will take charge of their zones by camping in Shakhot constituency. According to the information, 5 to 6 villages have been kept in every zone. MLAs and former MLAs have been appointed as heads of these zones.As per information, Bibi Jagir Kaur has given command nearby villages of Lohia, whereas Virsa Singh Valtoha’s zone has Seechewal and Chak Chela and three other villages. Akali Dal spokesman and Adampur MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu has been given charge of villages nearby Mehatpur. In addition, the Akali Dal has asked all the senior leaders to stay in Shahkot constituency for the elections.
