Amritsar: Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandk Committee (SGPC) on Friday presented its annual budget of around Rs 1,159 crore for the year 2018-19, an increase of 53 crores from last year’s budget of Rs 1,106.59-crore for 2017-2018. The meeting was held at Teja Singh Samundri Hall.
The budget was presented by Gurbachan Singh Karmuwala and passed by the SGPC House where Shiromani Akali Dal has the majority. With focus on promoting education and Sikh religion and its values, the SGPC had passed the budget.
SGPC thanked the state government for waiving off state GST on Langar.
The SGPC has been protesting against the anticipated Rs 10-crore annual GST burden on the langar sewa in gurdwaras. The SGPC has paid Rs 2-crore GST on langar items at the Golden Temple since July when the new tax regime came into being.
