New Jersey(Wishav Warta): New Jersey Assembly and New Jersey Senate on this past Monday, March 26, 2018 have passed two (2) historic Bills for the Sikh Community of New Jersey. The first bill declares the Vaisakhi (Khalsa Sirjana Divas), April 14th every year as a “Sikh Day”. The second bill designates the April of every year as “Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month”.
The bills request the Governor of New Jersey to issue proclamations every year to declare April 14th as “Sikh Day” and April every year as “Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month”. The bills also call upon public officials and citizens of the State to observe the month of April with appropriate activities and programs regarding Sikh History and Sikh Culture.
The Presidents of most of the New Jersey Gurdwaras and Sikh Leaders of PA, NY. VA and CA were present in the Assembly and Senate Galleries at the time of bill presentation and passing of these historic legislations.
