New Delhi: The Delhi MLA and Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa today said that successive governments at the Centre as well in states tried to suppress the voice of Sikhs who tried to raise their genuine demands during the last 70 years of independence of the country.
Addressing a gathering of prominent Sikh leaders from Jammu and Kashmir region of the country Sirsa said that it was most inhuman for the different governments of the country to work against the interests of the sikh community. He said that though in minority in the country sikh community has contributed more than any other community of the country not only for nation building but also for getting the country freed from the foreign rule.
He said that he was pained to see that not only Sikhs have been denied minority status in Jammu and Kashmir but the state has also run away from implementing the Anand Marriage Act which has been passed by the Parliament of the nation. He said that such behavior by the state government with the sikh community particularly when it has been accorded minority status by the Centre government is highly condemnable.
On the demand of the local sikh leadership Sirsa assured that issues related with sikh community will be taken up by the Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Home Minister Rajnath Singh during next week and a suitable solution will be find out to get the issues related with the sikh community resolved. He also assured to take up reservation issue for families of those who had sacrificed their life during the turmoil in the state on priority basis.
The DSGMC General Secretary also assured the sikh community of the J &K that whole SAD leadership is with then and they will not face any problem regarding the issues faced by them.
Earlier Sirsa was honored for getting implemented Anand Marriage Act in 14 states and UTs of the country. The sangat present on the occasion of death anniversary of Sant Baba Gurbax Singh ji also assured full support for the proposal to celebrate Children’s Day in the name of four sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh ji.
Others prominent present on the occasion included Tarlochan Singh Wazir MLC, Baldev Singh, Charanjit Singh Khalsa MLC besides others. The SAD leadership also dwelt upon the issue being faced by the community in the region.
