Chandigarh, December 31: The co-president of Aam Aadmi Party and Sunam legislator, Aman Arora on Sunday wrote a letter to the finance minister of Punjab, Manpreet Singh Badal to draw his attention towards Bill No.-24-PLA-2017, ‘The Punjab Legislative Assembly (Salaries and Allowances of Members) Amendment Bill-2017, passed by State Assembly in the recently concluded session. The bill was passed by the Vidhan Sabha mandating all MLA’s to declare their properties by the 1st day of January of every calendar year.
Arora In his letter wrote, “As this step was strongly welcomed by the Aam Aadmi Party, which stands for clean and transparent politics, I, for quite some time now, am ready with the details of my properties. It seems as the State Government itself is not clear on such a vital issue, which has been clearly evident from the fact that despite my repeated efforts in the past few days, no clarity has been given either by the Govt. or the Vidhan Sasha Secretariat, as to how, where, with whom and in which format, declaration is to be done.”
Arora said that it was such a good step taken by the Vidhan Sabha through which the people of state can see how much wealth their leader are having and what is the growth of their wealth every year. He said that the Govt. must take the issue seriously and ask guide MLAs to declare their property. He said that keeping in view the need for bringing transparency to the high office of Legislators, clarity on the issue should be provided at the earliest.
