Jalandhar(Parteek Singh): The first house meeting of the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar(MCJ) was conducted after the Congress switched to power in the civic body. In the first meeting of Municipal Corporation house total of 33 bills were presented out of which 28 bills were passed with the consensus of all member councillors. This was seen after many years that house meeting was well conducted and only minor ruckus was created by the opposition.
Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja did not pass bills arbitrarily but took the opinion of all including SAD-BJP councillors. There was minor disapproval to some bills which were added to the pending list and will be heard in the next meeting. While on bills included the purchase of rickshaws under MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) management, purchase of Bolero car for fire brigade department, creation of library in Municipal trust building, cows walking on the roads will be sheltered, under AMRUT scheme development of parks in the city and many others.
After the long winding dispute over it the project of solid waste treatment plant again inserted in the pending list. This is worth mentioning that the land was already been purchased in Jamsher village and even the consultation charges were paid to the private company, but after the dispute over pollutant created by the plant and enormous protest by villagers, the project was cancelled.
Apart from this during zero hour area representatives presented their local problems which included repairing of the roads, sewerage system and a special team to control the dog attacks. Senior Deputy Mayor Surinder Kaur asked the Mayor that free spaces of Corporation land should be made paid parking and Model Town zonal office should be made a multilevel building to raise funds.
