Chandigarh, Dec 13 – Continuing its crackdown on illicit liquor smuggling, Haryana Police has seized 1150 boxes of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in district Kaithal. Police have also impounded a truck being used in smuggling of liquor.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Haryana Police said that arrested accused was identified as driver of the vehicle Vaishakha, a resident of Malout in Punjab. The accused failed to produce any permit or document about seized liquor. During preliminary interrogation, accused revealed that he had brought seized liquor from Chandigarh for supply in Rajasthan.
A police team had got secret information that a truck loaded with illicit liquor would be coming from Pehowa side. Acting swiftly, police team started monitoring of trucks at a naka and signaled a suspicious vehicle to stop for checking, but instead of stopping the driver accelerated the vehicle and flee away. The team immediately sounded the Kalayat police team who finally intercepted the vehicle after its tyre got burst near village Kharak Pandwa. When checked, police had recovered 1150 boxes of illicit IMFL (55,200 quarters of royal blue whisky).
