Kapurthala: Kapurthala police arrested the last remaining accused of HDFC cash van robbery of Rs. 1.18 crore at village Manakrai near Bhogpur on 10 November. The main accused Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi a proclaimed offender and his accomplice with the recovery of rupees ten lakh eighty thousand, one pistol and one stolen motorcycle and 200 narcotic capsules from their possession.
SSP Sandip Kumar Sharma said Jalandhar and Kapurthala police had already arrested six accused in this case in a joint operation.
Divulging the details, SSP said that police on a tip-off, held a nakabandi near village Bahui on Kapurthala-Sultanpur Lodhi road today and intercepted a motorcycle on which both the accused were coming to Kapurthala form Sultanpur Lodhi side and on their search recovered the stolen money of rupees ten lakh eighty thousand from a bag and arrested both of them.
SSP said that police had so far recovered one crore eight thousand from all the accused and more than four lakh is also expected to be recovered from the accused Gopi.
He disclosed that Gopi is a proclaimed offender in a murder case of a Dera head Baba Pritam Singh of village Barchui falling in Jalandhar. SSP said that accused Gopi had fired from his pistol while looting the cash van and also doing drug business.
Police identified the Gopi accomplice as Kuldip Singh resident of village Bussowal falling in Sultanpur Lodhi and recovered 200 drug capsules from his possession.
Punjab Police DGP has already announced to honour Kapurthala SSP Sandip Kumar Sharma, SP (Headquarter), Kapurthala, one police Inspector of Jalandhar and three constables for solving the looting case within ten days.
