Chandigarh, 4 September(Wishav Warta): On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore extended his greetings to the teaching community and called upon them to mould young generations into confident and competent individuals to contribute to the New India. Teachers’ Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, noted educationalist and former President of India.
In a message issued on the occasion, he said that our teachers have always played a crucial role in this national endeavor by combining the academic pursuits with values of secularism, humanism and good fellow ship and developing good citizens instead of them being merely literate.
The Governor reminded the teachers of the life and philosophy of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, said that he said that real reverence to him would be to follow his path-breaking ideas, for a radical transformation of our education system, suiting the changing needs of global scenario.
Adding further, he said that to empower youth of our country, focus has been laid on providing quality education. The infrastructure of various schools has been improved in Chandigarh. Model of Extended School has been experimented in Government Schools in City.
The Governor further said that this day also reminds us of our responsibilities towards our teaching fraternity and appealed to the people to pay due respect to our teachers and recognize their role in the process of Nation’s building.
