Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD will gherao the Punjab assembly on March 20 to protest against the Congress government’s “ betrayal of the people of Punjab and the non-fulfilment of its poll promises, especially hitting farmers, farm labour and the poorer sections of society”.
Giving information about this decision taken by SAD’s core committee, senior vice president and spokesman of the party, Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema said that thousands of party workers accompanying the SAD leadership would reach Chandigarh on the protest day. He said that a joint meeting of MLAs, Ex MLAs and district presidents will be held on March 14, at the party headquarters at 3 PM to discuss the preparations for the Gherao. SAD president S Sukhbir Singh Badal would preside over this meeting to be called to finalise the strategy for the protest.
Dr. Cheema said that the SAD would not let the government to run away from the promises it made to farmers and farm labour about farm loan and force it to fulfill promises or quit the office.
