Barnala, 8 September(Wishav Warta): On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, a five-member team constituted by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha today visited the families of farmers and farm labourers who committed suicides in Barnala district. Committee Chairman and MLA Mr Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria stated that this committee would visit the families of farmers and farm labourers who have committed suicides in Barnala district. He said that they would compile a detailed report about it so that all possible help could be provided to their family members. During their visit to different parts of the Barnala district, the Committee members even interacted with the family members of the victims.
While speaking on the occasion, Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria stated that the Congress-led Punjab government is fully committed for the welfare of farmers and farm labourers and that is why they are visiting the family members of those who have committed suicides so that such cases don’t happen in future.
The committee comprised of Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria, Nathu Ram, Nazar Singh Manshahia, Kuljit Singh Nagra and Mr Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra and visited families of suicides victims in villages Dhanaula, Sanghera, Vajidke Kalan, Cheema, Shehna and Daraka Patti. The team members not only interacted with the family members of more than 20 suicide victims, but also collected data regarding the same.
On this occasion, Sukh Sarkaria directed the concerned officials to ensure widows, children and family members of suicide victims start getting government pension. He said that the team members advised farmers and farm labourers and their families not to resort to suicide and assured that the state government was working towards helping them.
He further informed that before their visit to the Barnala district, the team has already visited four other districts and a detailed report would be submitted with the Punjab Vidhan Sabha in three months time.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Deputy Commissioner Mr Ghanshyam Thori, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Arvinder Pal Singh Sandhu, SDM Barnala Bikramjit Singh Shergill, Assistant Commissioner (General) Mankanwal Singh Chahal, Gurjit Singh Brar, besides several others.
