Chandigarh, May 3( Wishavwarta)- The Digital Media Association Punjab on the World Press Freedom Day, today sought full protection for the media warriors who are on the fore front in fight against Covid-19.
Devinderjit Singh Darshi (wishavwarta.in) President of Association said that large number of journalists were risking their lives and working as bridge between the governments and people in worst periods of Corona Virus spread in every country. He said that Journalists had sacrificed lives in wars between countries and violent conflicts within countries. Majority of Indian journalists have passed through such turmoil in the past and lost their lives while fighting for freedom of the press.
Darshi said that the Digital Media Association in a resolution commended the services of all journalists who are doing Covid-19 reporting in life threatening situation and salute their valour. The resolution said that in the past one decade 554 journalists and 49 media workers have lost their lives in the line of their duty all over the world. About 200 cases of arrests, threats and harassment of journalists related to media coverage of the pandemic are also reported. In the war against Covid-19 two spanish journalists had lost their lives and hundreds have fallen sick. The journalists who are sacrificing their lives were unsung heroes of othe society. They fight for protecting democracy, human rights of people and work as watchdogs against the corrupt governments and public servants.
On this World Press Freedom Day, the Digital Media Association Punjab stood firmly for the rights of journalists and sought protection for the Media Covid warriors and also for the health workers, social activists who are at high risk. Allowing them to perform fearlessly would help the world to live in peace and prosperity.
The Association also demanded insurance cover for all journalists who are reporting for Covid-19 on the pattern of health workers.
