CHANDIGARH, MARCH 27( Wishavwarta): On the directives of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Labour Department has transferred Rs. 86 Crore through DBT in the bank accounts of 2,86,353 construction workers registered with the Punjab Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
Disclosing this here today, the Labour Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that said keeping in view the nature of work of construction workers, they are unable to work from home. Therefore, the construction workers will have to stay at home without work and wages during the curfew amid COVID-19 restrictions in the state. The Minister pointed out that the survival of construction workers and their family members is at stake if they do not get work and wages, therefore the State Government has taken this decision to provide them a much needed relief in this hour of crisis.
Pertinently, the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, who is also the Chairman of Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board had already decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 3000 to 3.18 lakh registered construction workers through DBT in their bank accounts involving approximately an expenditure of Rs 96 crore.
