Chandigarh, January 29: The performance of the entire staff of the polytechnic colleges would be monitored regularly to improve the standard of technical education in the government Polytechnic colleges of the state. The Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said that a decision has been taken to constitute a three member committee for strengthening the overall system of the government polytechnic colleges. He said that one member each from Maharaja Ranjit Singh University Bathinda, PTU Jalandhar and technical education board would be part of this committee.
Channi said that this committee would soon visit all government Polytechnic colleges and submit a detailed report about the infrastructure development, upgradation of courses and other requirements. The Technical Education Minister has issued clear cut instructions that only the courses which are suitable for employment as per needs of the present and future would be run in the government institutes. He also informed that outdated courses would be closed.
The Technical Education Minister took another important decision to change the non performing principals of the Polytechnic Colleges. In this meeting, it has also been decided to attach the performance of the entire staff and lecturers of technical education department with ACRs. As per this decision increments in pay and promotions would be based on be performance.
Channi said that the deployment staff in the technical education department would be restructured and rationalized. Apart from this, he said that practice of different cadres would be put into end and there would be only one cadre in the department.
The Technical Education Minister has directed the Heads of the Colleges to ensure 100% admission and results. It was also decided to fix responsibility of non performers. He further said that the teachers of the polytechnic colleges would adopt students and that particular teacher would be responsible for the performance of the adopted students.
The Technical Education Minister directed to implement the biometric attendance system within a month and asked the heads of colleges to purchase the bio-metric attendance equipments at their level as per norms laid by the government. He directed to implement to the bio-metric attendance system for teachers and students from this academic session.
The Technical Education Minister issued directions to promote sports, cultural, NSS and NCC activities in the polytechnic colleges for the overall development of students. ‘The heads of the Polytechnic colleges would be held accountable for implementing all the decisions,’ added Channi.
