Jalandhar(Wishav Warta): Cracking down on illegal marriage palaces under its jurisdiction, the Chief Administrator of Jalandhar Development Authority Girish Dayalan today said that the authority would start the process of sealing of illegal marriage palaces after December 31.
Presiding over a meeting to review the marriage palaces here at the District Administrative Complex here today, the Chief Administrator said that 22 marriage palaces have already been sealed by the authority for violating the norms adding that 194 marriage palace owner have applied for regularisation out of which 61 were from Jalandhar, 78 from Kapurthala and 55 from Hoshiarpur. He said that out of these 194, the authority has rejected 11 cases whereas 10 cases have been passed. Dayalan said that the remaining 173 were still under process, which would be deemed to illegal until final clearance.
The Chief Administrator said that it was mandatory for all the marriage palaces to get regularisation certificate by December 31, 2017 else the authority would start the process to seal these marriage palaces. He said that after December 31 the authority would ask them other departments including Excise and Taxation, Urban Local bodies and others to not issue any permission for functions. Dayalan said that the violating marriage palace owners must get their palaces regularised else they could be imprisoned from three to seven years under various provisions of law.
The Chief Administrator said that the JDA has uploaded the details of all the regularised and illegal marriage palaces on its website. He appealed to the people to book only regularised marriage palaces for the smooth conduct of their functions and for preventing any sort of inconvenience to them. Dayalan also asked the officer of various departments present in the meeting to expedite the process of issuing NOCs from their respective departments at the earliest.
