Panchkula: Special CBI judge Jagdeep Singh, who sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim to 20 years imprisonment on August 25 last year, will pronounce the sentencing in Rohtak’s Apna Ghar sexual abuse case on Friday. The order is expected any time after 2 pm.
Apna Ghar was a shelter home in Haryana’s Jat dominated Rohtak city that was run by area resident Jaswanti Devi and her family members. They were arrested in 2012 by CBI following raid by National Council for the Protection of Child Rights. Touted as region’s worst sexual crime.
During the trial, the inmates including minor, adult and differently-abled girls narrated painful ordeal of rape and sexual exploitation at the hands of the accused.
Judge on April 18 has already convicted Jaswanti Devi, her daughter Sushma alias Simmi, son-in-law Jai Bhagwan, brother Jaswant, cousin Sheela, driver Satish, employee Ram Prakash Saini and counsellor Veena based on their testimony and other evidences and various charges of sexual and physical molestation of inmates.
Another accused Roshni was convicted for buying a child born out of a rape victim.
Three girls escaped from Rohtak’s government-funded destitute home Apna Ghar and contacted child line after reaching Delhi on May 7, 2012.
CBI filed a chargesheet against 10 people in special CBI court in Panchkula.
