New Delhi: The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) today honoured Asian Gold medalist Navjot Kaur with Rs. One lakh award and presented the cheque to her.
She was felicitated here today by the DSGMC President Manjit Singh GK, General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa besides other members. Sukhchain Singh father of Navjot Kaur and her sister Navjit Kaur were also present on the occasion.
It is worth mentioning here that Navjot Kaur has scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win gold medal at Senior Asian Wrestling Championship at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Speaking on the occasion GK and Sirsa said that Navjot Kaur has made the community proud with her achievement as she had become first Indian woman to achieve this feat. They said that Navjot has scored a big achievement in the field which was always considered as a male dominated field.
They said that her achievement will inspire other girls of the community to achieve new heights in life. Both the leaders also said that it was proud moments for whole community as more and more sikh girls are making achievements on national level.
GK and Mr. Sirsa also thanked Sukhbir Singh Badal President SAD and Union Cabinet Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal for felicitating Navjot Kaur and said that such honours boost up the morale of these international performers.
Manjit Singh GK on the occasion also told the NRIs settled in different countries that they are leveling allegations of drug taints on the Punjabi Youth but youth like Navjot Kaur have showed them that Punjabis are performers not drug addicts.
Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that instead of wasting their money on securing political defeats of various leaders, these NRIs should use their money to promote Punjabi youth like Navjot Kaur and others in sports arena so that Punjabis can bring laurels for the community worldwide.
It is also worth mentioning here that the DSGMC has earlier felicitated Harmanpreet Kaur, presently captain of Indian Women cricket team of twenty twenty.
