Jalandhar, December 12(Wishav Warta): Three Municipal Corporations(MC) of Punjab is going for poll on 17 December. As many as 925 candidates are in the fray for the elections for wards of Amritsar, Patiala and Jalandhar. 413 candidates are in the contest for the the 85 wards in Amritsar Municipal Corporation and 207 candidates will contest for 60 wards of the Patiala Municipal Corporation. While for 80 wards of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation 305 candidates are in the fray, a spokesman for the state elections office said.
The Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD), BJP and Congress will give each other tough competition but on the other hand opposition party in assembly Aam Aadmi Party seems far behind and even failed to field candidates on all the seats of civic bodies. In Jalandhar civic polls SAD will contest on 29 seats and BJP on 51. The Congress has upper hand in the Civic elections as they have doninating on the MLA seats of all the Municipal Corporations.
A total of 1,335 nominations were filed for 225 wards of three municipal corporations. After the withdrawal and rejection, 925 contestants now remain in the fray, official said. Elections to three MCs and 31 municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats will take place on December 17. However, polling to Mallanwala Khas Nagar Panchayat will be held on December 20.
The counting of votes will also take place on December 17 and result will come out on same day. It would be for the first time that voters would have the ‘None Of The Above’ option in the civic bodies polls in the state. EVMs sans VVPAT would be used for the polling.
