• SLEW OF INITIATIVES MULLED TO DECONGEST MANDIS FOR KEEPING A CHECK ON COVID-19
Jalandhar, April 5( Wishavwarta)-The Administration pulled up its socks for ensuring smooth and hassle free procurement of wheat in the district in wake of the prevailing circumstances due to the epidemic of Corona Virus.
Chairing a meeting with the officers of procurement agencies and Aartiyas at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal reiterated the firm commitment of the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to procure every single grain of the farmers. They said that elaborate arrangements would be made to facilitate the farmers during the procurement of grains. They said that at present there were 78 designated grain markets in the district to procure the grains.
However, the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that keeping in view the prevailing situation the number of designated mandis could be enhanced by designating new mandis in the district. They said that for this purpose the storage points, vacant government land and shellers could be used. The officers said that this would help in reducing rush of farmers in mandi on one hand and maintaining social distance during procurement on the other.
The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police also said that in order to facilitate the farmers for movement of grains the Mandi Board would be issuing special passes for procurement season starting from April 15. They said that along with procurement of grains, checking the spread of Corona Virus was also the top priority of the state government and the district administration. The officers assured the people that the golden grains of the foof growers would be procured and lifted at every cost.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioners Mr. Vishesh Sarangal and Mr. Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr. Amit Kumar, Mr. Rahul Sindhu, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Dr. Jai Inder Singh and Dr. Vineet Kumar, District Food and Supply Controller Mr. Narinder Singh. District Manager Markfed Mr. Sachin Gupta, District Mandi Officer Mr. Davinder Singh and others were also present.
