*Chandigarh, May 25( Wishavwarta)-The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has described the bizarre statement made by senior leader and president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Sunil Jakhar, as irrelevant and uncalled for and a mere ploy to deflect the peoples’ attention from the colossal failures of the government during its more than three year long tenure. The party said the Congress chief made an irresponsible remark on his twitter handle against an inadvertent human error that had crept in a recruitment advertisement released by the Delhi government, terming it a design to duck peoples’ attention from the core issues of concern. The party has demanded that Sunil Jakhar should either apologize to the uncouth statement made by him to target the Aam Aadmi Party’s government in Delhi, or face protest.
The sharp verbal attack was mounted by a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema, at a press conference held in Chandigarh on Monday.
While addressing the media, Harpal Singh Cheema, along with senior party leader Harchand Singh Bursat and state unit president of trade wing Nina Mittal, clarified that the advertisement had published in a daily upon which Jakhar was making outrageous remarks on his twitter handle was not only withdrawn immediately after coming to notice but the Delhi government had also suspended the erring officer concerned and started an investigation against him, adding that, through an oversight on the part of an official, Sikkim had not been shown as a part of India in a recruitment advertisement released by the Delhi government.
Attacking the Congress president, Cheema said that had the Aam Aadmi Party been anti-national or separatist party, it would not registered its illustrious victory in Delhi third time in a row under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He added that Aam Aadmi Party was a party born out of struggles against the corrupt system of governance in the country. Referring to the efforts put in by the Delhi government’s fight against the global corona epidemic, which was being given thumbs up across the world, alleging that the statement made by Jakhar was to merely divert the peoples’ attention from the real issues surrounding Punjab and an internecine bickering among the Congress party who’s who?
Cheema threatened that Jakhar should either prove his wild allegations or withdraw his statement within a week and apologize to the people of Punjab for making an atrocious statement against the party (AAP) or face state-wide protests.
The LoP said that what all was going on in the state under the government led by Captain Amarinder Singh had proved him the most inefficient chief minister of the country and congress chief Sunil Jakhar as the ‘dummy’ chief of the party.
Accusing him of surrendering to the state mafia, Cheema said that Jakhar, like Captain and the Badals, had befriended with the power mafia for obvious resons, which was why power deals inked during the rule of the Badals were not tweaked. He alleged that Jakhar, who had been holding daily press conferences against the one sided PPAs earlier during the rule of the erstwhile government, had now been maintaining a stoic silence after coming to power. Cheema said that if he had been sensitive about Punjab and its people, why he did not get the anti-people and anti-state power deals scrapped, saying if the Captain government didn’t have faith in him, why was he clinging on to his post?
Earlier, Cheema mourned the demise of hockey legend late Balbir Singh Sr. and paid tributes by observing a two-minute silence on the occasion.
Cheema also extended greeting to the people of Punjab and the country on the on the auspicious occasion of Eid.
Others who were present on the occasion included state core committee members Gerry Birring, Sukhwinder Sukhi and spokesperson Gobinder Mittal.
