Chandigarh, May 23( Wishavwarta): The Digital Media Association of Punjab has strongly condemned rising attacks on media persons. The Association has taken strong notice of thrashing of Mohali based Journalist Major Singh by Policemen and beating of Husan Lal a journalist based in Bhogpur in Jalandhar district by henchmen of a local Congress leader.
The Association President Devinderjit Singh Darshi in a statement said that a few days back a Nawanshahr based journalist was allegedly murdered by mining mafia. The trend of attacks on media persons in not confined to Punjab alone but such cases are being reported from all over India. He said that media was backbnone of democracy and attempts to gag media would harm the interests of people in general and also tarnish the image of India in the world.
The Digital Media Association office bearers Chief Patron Baljit Balli, Chairman Satinder Bains, President Devinderjit Singh Darshi, Senior Vice President Mahavir Jan, Vice President H.S.Bawa, Gneral Secretary Devinder Kohli, Office Secretary Parminder Singh Jattpuri and Joint Secretary Prshant Sharma expressed solidarity with Major Singh and Mohali Press Club which has taken up the issue of police atrocity on Major Singh.
Darshi said that Association stood for freedom of press and urged the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and DGP Dinkar Gupta for strict action against policemen involved in attack on Major Singh and Husan Lal. The Association also demanded fair probe into murder of Nawanshahr journalist.
