Jalandhar(Parteek Singh): The Indian origin British politician and Mayor of Watford Jagtar Singh Dhindsa held a press meet at Jalandhar. He said in United Kingdom Sikh are respected immensely and the 5K’s(Kara, Kanga, Kirpan, Kesh, Kachera) are also respected by all the nationalists and the government. The government has even allowed the jail inmates to wear 4K’s except Kirpan, every week a Sikh preacher is allowed to enter jail wearing all the K’s and reciting path. Even the baptised visitors are allowed to carry kirpan along with them in the jail. He said there is a lot of love in people for Sikhs. Later talking about the demand for recognition of Sikh’s as separate ethnic group in the UK’s census, not Indian. He said Sikhs have a different identity as they can be recognised from a distance by their looks and many are born in the UK now so there should be an inclusion of Sikhs in the census as a separate ethnic group, our religion should be recognised in the census. This will also make people aware of Sikhs as they are targeted for racism at some occasion.
Politician also spoke on the hot topic of the arrest of Jagtar Singh Johal, he said he is a British citizen and British consulate will interfere in this matter if he is found guilty then he should be punished but before that his human rights must not be violated as he has heard no one knows were he is and his family is not allowed to meet him, this is wrong. He should be allowed to defend himself and proper investigation should be done. He said Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi has asked all the MPs to write to Indian consulate to investigate the case in a transparent manner. He is a British nationalist so we will seek British consulate to intervene in the matter as he is under serious charges of terror, Dhindsa Said.
