Jalandhar: In a joint endeavor aimed at sensitizing the people especially the farmers against stubble burning, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana and PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry in association with Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) organized a seminar here at a village.
The seminar was organized to raise awareness and disseminate information among farmers on Paddy residue management under the Mass Awareness Campaign – To Halt Paddy Straw Burning being observed by the chamber. Special focus of the event organized at Cooperative Society in Village Dalla, near Nurmahal was to educate farmers on Straw management technologies with practical demonstration of the Super SMS, Cutter-cum-spreader and PAU Happy Seeder at the site.
In his address, Agricultural Engineer, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, PAU, Ludhiana Dr. Mahesh Kumar Narang shared his rich expertise in crop residue management on the occasion. He called upon the farmers to adopt latest techniques for paddy straw management rather than polluting the environment by burning it to save Punjab from major environmental pollution. Narang said that rather than burning the paddy straw the farmers must adopt latest techniques like Happy seeder, Rotavator, Paddy cutter cum shredder, Paddy chopper cum shredder and others to ensure optimum management of paddy straw. He further stated, the best way to tackle the huge quantity of straw generated is to incorporate it back into the soil. Narang said that this not only helps in improving the quality of soil, but also reduces the use of fertilizers.
In her address, Deputy Resident Director, PHD Chamber Rimneet Kaur inspired the farmers to shun the practice of Paddy Straw burning for the overall welfare of the humanity.
