SAS Nagar, April 22 – Taking a strong cognisance of negligence of police official in a Rape case, The Punjab State Women Commission (PSWC) has directed the Police authorities of District SAS Nagar to expedite the inquiry into the case, which was reported on April 16, 2019 in Sohana Police Station. Chairperson of the Commission Mrs. Manisha Gulati also directed the authorities to take stern departmental action against the concerned Station House Officer (SHO), who has been placed under suspension for failing to act promptly on this complaint.
Mrs. Gulati today met with the victim and inquired about the incident from the SP (City) Mr. Harwinder Singh Virk and others. After the meeting, she directed the officials to take strict action in this case. She also instructs the officials to give best possible medical and legal aid to the victim and assured her that the commission would take care of her rehabilitation.
It is pertinent to mention that the victim stated in her complaint that the accused had picked her from Sector 68 on the morning of April 15 in the pretext of lift and took her to Sector 67 where he first raped her. The accused then took the victim to a secluded place in Sector 79/80 where he again tried to rape her but she managed to come out of the car. The victim then called the police control room and reached Sohana Police Station with her husband.
