Jalandhar: In another major seizure of drug haul, the Counter-Intelligence Wing has busted an inter-state drug smuggling racket and recovered 3.5 quintal poppy husk hidden under onion bags in a truck in Phillaur.
The counterintelligence wing has also arrested three accused as Nishan Singh (40) alias Shana of Dhuri in Sangrur, Raghbir Singh (40) and Hardeep Singh (47) of Moga district. Fourth accomplice Jaswinder Singh alias Kaka Gill of Moga managed to flee away from the spot.
In a press release, AIG Counter Intelligence HPS Khakh said that the counter Intelligence Wing was keeping close vigil on the activities of drug smugglers and got a tip-off today, a large haul of drug consignment is being supplied in a truck registration number (PB29-AZ-7767) from MP by Moga based drug kingpin Jaswinder Singh who is involved in smuggling the poppy husk from Madhya Pradesh.
He said that acting swiftly on the input, this information immediately shared with SSP Jalandhar Rural Mr Navjot Singh Mahal following which a Joint team of Counter Intelligence wing Jalandhar and SHO Phillaur was formed and the team moved for search in the area to seizure the drug consignment and to apprehend the smugglers.
Mr Khakh said that police party laid a special checking on the Tehang Octroi Post and stopped the truck coming from SBS Nagar district side in which three persons were sitting along with the driver when police party stopped the truck for checking.
AIG added that after spotting the cops, one person fled away from the spot and the remaining three persons were apprehended.
“During checking of the truck, the Police party seized 3.5 quintal poppy husk hidden under the 480 loaded bags of onions in the truck and a case was registered against them in Police Station Phillaur under sections 15/61/85 NDPS Act”, AIG added.
Khakh further informed that the accused would be taken on the police remand to interrogate them about the entire module of the racket and other persons involved in this network.
