Goraya(Jalandhar): Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh today envisioned that the debt relief scheme of the state government would be instrumental in bailing out the farmers of the state from the vicious circle of farm debt.
Addressing the gathering during a function organized to distribute the certificates of debt relief here today, the MP, accompanied by Congress leader Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary and Sub Divisional Magistrate Ms. Navneet Kaur Bal, said that this path breaking initiative of the Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab government would go a long way in bringing much needed relief to the debt-ridden farmers. He said that this decision would certainly reduce the burden of debt on the economically oppressed farmers by mitigating their woes. Chaudhary Santokh Singh said that this was all the more important for safeguarding the interests of the hard working and resilient farmers of the state, who have played key role in providing food security to the country.
The MP further said that debt relief was a part of the fulfillment of the election promise made to the farmers by the Chief Minister. He said that the Punjab government was totally committed for implementing the promise of debt waiver and no stone would be left unturned for this noble cause. On the occasion Chaudhary Santokh Singh and Chaudhary Vikram Singh distributed debt relief certificates worth Rs. 11 crore to 1598 beneficiaries. They said that in the first phase 1488 beneficiaries had availed the benefit of this scheme worth Rs 7.32 crore and now in the second phase 1598 beneficiaries have availed the benefit of this scheme.
