Jalandhar: On the continuous elevation of petroleum prices, Punjab Congress termed Bhartiya Janta Party of not possessing economic knowledge consequently affecting the public of India to suffer economic crises. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Sunil Jakhar said that PM Modi is senseless and immoral as his government is pushing citizens into inflation. “We demand central government to include petroleum under GST slab of 17 percent as it is necessary commodity for people, which will cut the price of petroleum products to less than half”, he added.
“During the tenure of Congress government in November 2009, crude oil prices were 77.49 USD per barrel and petrol was being sold at Rs 44.72 per litre and today a barrel costs 77.04, but petrol prices hiked to Rs 83 per litre. Conclusively, this is what we call economical crises in our country”, Jakhar said.
Congress leader levelled accusations that central government is earning as much as Rs 3 lakh crores from the tax levied on petrol and diesel only. He said that during the government of Dr Manmohan Singh an excise share from state to central government was 26 percent, but after coming into power PM Modi upstretched the central share to 42 percent. Not only this the state’s Value Added Tax (VAT) has been reduced from 33 percent to 22 percent on petrol and diesel.
Apart from this, All India Congress Committee has announced to protest against BJP government for fabricated promises, as today the government completes 4 years of its tenure on May 26. “Ajj toh BJP di ulti ginti chalu ho chuki hai” (from today the countdown begins of BJP government) said Sunil Jakhar.
