Patiala: A local court on Thursday extended remand of former senior superintendent of police Surjit Singh Grewal till April 30 in connection with the corruption case registered against him by the state vigilance bureau. He was presented before the court as his 3 days remand was to finish today.
The bureau had registered a case against Grewal for amassing wealth worth several crores of rupees disproportionate to his known sources of income.
As per the challan filed by the VB, during his postings as SSP Moga and SSP Fazilka from 2005 to 2014, Grewal had amassed wealth that was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The VB report says that the accused police officer bought ‘benami’ land at different places across the state besides investing the money in fixed deposits (FD‘s) worth around Rs 25-30 crores. A search of bank lockers held by him and his family members also led to the recovered of around 40 Kg of gold and Jewellery. He deposited Rs 36.52,675 in the name of his son Jasjit Singh and Rs 14,81,55 in the name of his daughter in law Amandeep Kaur.
The land was also bought in the name of Jaswinder Singh, brother in law of his son Jasjit Singh for a sum of Rs 25,41,000 and in the name of his wife Jaswinder Kaur Rs 15,000 at different places. The former SSP also deposited a sum of Rs.4,38,163,30 in the name of his wife Jaswinder Kaur and purchased 5 Kg gold for a sum of Rs.l,50,000,00. The bought as many as 11 industrial motors in the name of his relative Harminder Singh for a sum of Rs l,00,000,00.
