Jalandhar(Wishav Warta): The political scenario took a turn around after five times MLA from Dakala and former Minister Lal Singh entered the political scene of Shahkot by-election. Ex-Minister has marked his claim for candidateship of Shahkot constituency elections coming within next few months. A senior leader of Congress did not contest in Punjab assembly elections as his son Rajinder Singh had elected from Samana constituency.
Lal Singh who also belongs to the ‘Kamboj’ community claims his victory as the voter lists include more than 45,000 voters from the same community and he assures higher leadership of full support by them. Lal Singh is considered as one of the big leaders of Congress party who can make the constituency stronghold of the Congress.
After the Lal Singh’s claim on Shahkot assembly by-poll ticket, Congress national leadership is exultant to stand a resilient leader on the grounds of Shahkot, sources revealed. According to information, Lal Singh is also a strong candidate to hold the portfolio in the Punjab government if he manages to get the ticket and win by-elections.
According to information, the State leadership is not much happy with the appearance of Lal Singh. The leadership is in the favour to give a ticket to the candidate who belongs to the area, not an outsider. According to which Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa went to the constituency on Sunday and distributed the cheques of amount Rs 20 crores by the hand of local aspirant Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia to raise public support towards him.
However, the national authority of Congress believes that Congress has not yet made a strong government in Punjab and the Ministers are also light-weight leaders, according to which central leadership wants to stand leader with higher influences and popular in public, an expert said.
Lal Singh had joined the political scene in early 1977, where he elected his first elections from Dakala constituency in Patiala district and managed to triumph the assembly seat. He later became Minister of several important portfolios of government including Revenue department. Now, this is to be seen if Lal Singh manages to get the ticket from central leadership or the party will stick to its agenda one family one ticket.
