Jalandhar: In a major breakthrough, Punjab police has arrested gangster Saraj Singh Sandhu, alias Mintoo, wanted for the murder of Hindu leader Vipan Sharma and various other crimes. A special team led by AIG OCCU Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, DSP RK Yadav, Sub-Inspectors Pritpal & Sukhjit, and ASI Sukhwinder executed the operation. Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh took to Twitter and congratulated the team, DGP Suresh Arora and DGP (Intelligence) Dinkar Gupta.
CM Capt Amarinder Singh arrived at Kartarpur(Jalandhar) today to inaugurate the second phase of Jung-e-Azadi memorial. A few hours before the event around six o’clock on Tuesday, AIG Counter Intelligence, Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, arrested a notorious gangster Saraj Sandhu on a short distance from the memorial near Bidhipur railway crossing.
AIG HPS Khakh said that two high grade pistols along with huge catch of ammunition has been seized from the gangster. He said that this is the first time Saraj has been arrested despite his long and active involvement in crime.
He said that during a preliminary investigation Saraj has confessed to his involvements in various crimes including the killing of Hindu Sangharsh Sena leader Vipin Sharma in Bharat Nagar locality of Amritsar on October 30 last year. The AIG added that Saraj along with his associates, attacked the police party and freed a notorious criminal Shubham Singh when he was under police custody to produce in the court.
Shubham’s father Baljinder Singh alias kalu a suspended police constable who was killed some time ago, Shubham suspected that Vipin Sharma had helped his father’s assassination with Simranjit Singh. However Shubham conpired with Saraj to kill Vipin Sharma, Saraj even took the responsibility of this murder in a facebook post.
Saraj has also confessed to being involved in drug trade with his two aides Jaggu Bhagwan and Bobby Malhotral, both are lodged in jail. The AIG said that police is planning to seek production warrants of both these jail inmates for further investigation.
Saraj Sandhu was wanted in over 15 cases of heinous crimes including murder, attempt to murder and robbery.
