Jalandhar: Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today reviewed the arrangements for the dedication of the second phase of the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial to be done by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on March 6.
Presiding over a high level meeting to review the arrangements for upcoming mega event at Jang-e-Azadi Memorial this afternoon, the Minister, accompanied by Managing Editor of Ajit group of newspapers Dr. Barjinder Singh Hamdard, said that this historic event must be organized in an unsurpassed manner. He said that elaborate arrangements would be made for making this event a memorable one. Sidhu said that this memorial was a benefitting tribute to the great heroes of the National freedom struggle who made supreme sacrifices for emancipating the country from yoke of British imperialism.
The Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar to coordinate with all the departments involved in organizing this function to mark this historic occasion. He said that more such meetings would be organized to ensure that the function was a huge success. Sidhu said that Tourism and Cultural affairs department of the state government would make all the necessary arrangements for the event.
The Minister said that it was a red letter day for the entire state as the second phase of this memorial showcasing the immense contribution of Punjabis in national freedom struggle would be dedicated to people. He also solicited the participation of the distinguished personalities from different walks of life viz. religious, political and social in this event.
Earlier, the President of the Executive Committee of the Jang-E-Azadi Foundation, Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard, apprised the Minister about the functioning of Jang-e-AzadiFoundation.
Later, Sidhu and Dr Hamdard along with Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma and other officers visited the memorial to have on the spot assessment and finalize the arrangements accordingly especially related to food and refreshment, public conveniences and parking facility for the people and the VIPs.
