Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that GST was a reformatory tax that would go a long way in scripting new success story in economic history of the country.
Addressing the students during the Inter College debate organized by the Tribune newspaper group here at APEEJAY institute of Management today, the Deputy Commissioner said that this tax would give the much needed fillip to the overall economic development of the country. He said that one taxation system was a big transformation that was needed for putting the country further on high growth trajectory. Mr. Sharma said that this single taxation system was the need of the hour for further streamlining this system to benefit the people.
The Deputy Commissioner said that though there was teething problems in the implementation of this mechanism but this would be overcome soon. He said that initially every good step has to face some challenges but later or sooner this would prove to be a step in larger interest. Sharma expressed hope that things would move in right direction after all the preliminary issues were resolved.
Lauding the Tribune group for taking this unique initiative, the Deputy Commissioner said that such debates instill sense of confidence amongst the youth. He said that it heartening to see the young minds deliberating on such an important issue of national interest. Mr. Sharma said that it was all the more important for the overall personality development of the students.
On the occasion, the GST Commissioner Daljeet Kaur also addressed the gathering and apprised the students about the benefits of this tax.
