Jalandhar, January 8(Parteek Singh): The former DGP, Shashi Kant takes a u-turn on his drugs allegations on Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha on Monday. He has made an apology to former MLA in Patti court for making drugs allegations on him. Shahi Kant had submitted an affidavit in Patti court seeking an apology for making false allegations against Virsa Singh Valtoha in 2014.
It is to be mentioned that Shashi Kant, in a press conference at Jalandhar in 2014 had made allegations of involvement in drugs on six political leaders including Virsa Singh Valtoha.
Valtoha has acknowledged this as biggest victory of the Shiromani Akali Dal over drug allegations. Valtoha said people like Shahi Kant make allegations based on zero facts and truth in order to gain political importance and play games.
Kant on 22 April 2014 by naming big politicians of the state involved in the drug trade in Punjab rocked the ruling party.
In 2014 conference Shashi Kant, who was ADGP (intelligence) during the SAD-BJP regime, claimed that it was a four-page list, which was prepared by the intelligence department in 2007, and he gave it to the CM. He alleged that the list was kept under wraps and little action was taken as political careers of those named in it thrived after 2007 even after it was submitted to CM Badal.
At that time the names of politicians, which Shashi Kant claimed figured in the list, included SAD ministers Gulzar Singh Ranike and Ajit Singh Kohar, Virsa Singh Valtoha, former SAD MLA Veer Singh Lopoke and Congress leader from Amritsar O P Soni and Jalandhar-based BJP leader Jimmy Kalia.
